World Youth Day 2005

On July 8th 2004 the World Youth Day Cross reached Nuremberg. On his way through he diocese it also stopped at the roman chapel in Altenfurt. We had a short service with ca. 200 young people and our band "Living Stones" made music.
Some young people from Altenfurt went to the CrossOver–Youth Festival in Eichstätt. There we visited a exhibition of crosses made by youth groups, celebrated a service with Bishop Walther, had a nightly vigil with the WYD Cross and went to a concert.
On Januar 13th we had an Info meeting in Moorenbrunn. The people were informed about the WYD, the currens plannings, the guests who will visit our parish and about the travel to Cologne.
On Februar 19th the "Three Kings Shrine" reached Altenfurt. Therefore we had a ruminant service on Februar 20th. Our band "Living Stones" made the music.
March 13th participans, organisators and helpers met to talk about the WYD, the days of Encounter and the schedule we will offer. Schedule draft: Days of Encounter
To spread the topic "World Youth Day" over the hole parish we chose the motto "Guest are a blessing" for our youth mass on April 24th. The alms are used for the WYD. Our band "Living Stones" sang songs not only in German, but also in English and French. Poster for the youth mass
This year, the Feast of Corpus Christi (May 26th) also delt with the WYD. Some teenagers made a carpet of flowers with the WYD-logo. We also hung up our WYD-banner at the youth-altar. During the procession, youth read out intercessions that picked the WYD out as a central theme. They prayed among others for all those who prepare the WYD, all guest families and our new Pope Benedict.
On 4. July we had a meeting for host families and other people who are involved in the Days of Encounter. We discussed about the Program for the Days of Encounter and distributed the guests to differnt families.
Before the core World Youth Day there are the Days of Encounter (11. – 15. August 2005) in the dioceses.
Our diocese Eichstätt expects about 5000 young people from all over the world.
About 90 guests will visit our parish and will live in host families.
One group is from France, one from Siberia and the third group we don't know yet.

The XX. World Youth Day
takes place from 16. to 21. August 2005 in Cologne.
The motto is called We have come to worship him
(Mt. 2,2)
About 800.000 pilgrims from all over the world are expected.
